Jennifer works with a wide variety of concerns and is qualified to treat most conditions which cause people distress. Some areas of special interest include: anxiety (OCD, phobias, general anxiety), depression, trauma, relationships, couples work, interpersonal conflict, identity, parenting, and developing assertiveness. She is a strong LGBTQ ally and has experience working with LGBTQ couples and individuals. Habla español y hace terapia en español.
Training and Experience
Jennifer earned her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has experience working with clients of varied ages and backgrounds. She has special training in: working with LGBTQ clients, gender identity, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, couples counseling, substance abuse, and autism. Before becoming a counselor, she worked as a teacher, bilingual resource specialist and medical Spanish interpreter. She has worked extensively with adolescents and families at Briarpatch/Youth Services of Southern Wisconsin.
Jennifer’s approach to counseling is primarily interpersonal and family systems-based. She believes her clients are doing the best they can and have developed strategies and behaviors in response to experiences in their lives. She helps clients understand how their problems developed and helps them learn new ways of coping with distress. She works hard to meet clients where they are and tailor her style to meet her clients’ needs. Other approaches used include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness.
