Treatment Specialties

Maria specializes in working with individuals with a variety of mood disorders including: depression, anxiety, bipolar, and seasonal affective disorder. She also specializes in trauma work, grief/loss, and substance use disorders/other addictive behaviors. Maria has a passion for working with those dealing with postpartum mood disorders and coping with major life changes. She aims to emphasize each client's strengths and help them find their hope, purpose, and motivation towards personal goals.


Training and Experience

Maria is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Substance Abuse Counselor. She received her Master's degree in Community Counseling from Lakeland University and completed the Substance Use Disorder Counselor Certificate Program through UW-Madison. She gained experience through treating clients for mental health and substance use issues in outpatient settings in both Dane and Rock Counties. Prior to that, she worked to support college students in their well-being and to reach their goals through a student organization.


Techniques

Maria uses a combination of evidence-based therapy techniques, which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Logotherapy. Maria aims to instill hope and encourage discovery of each client’s potential, values and purpose through an encouraging, person-centered, and nonjudgmental environment. Maria takes a holistic approach; utilizing client's unique combination of strengths, relationships, hobbies, faith, interests, and/or other resources to support a client's progress in therapy.
